A&L Team with Benoit Drolet

On Sunday 27 of July – very hot summer day, couples of A&L Team gathered at Leigh Ballroom in Eastleigh for the following Training day organised by Alex and Lisa. This time it was not just Latin-American Day. Alex and Lisa were very proud to invite for lectures and private lessons one of UK,s leading and upcoming coaches Mr. Benoit Drolet. Benoit did a very interesting lecture on Ballroom Dancing presenting classical aspects of Ballroom Dances alongside some liberal views on the subject.

The whole day started with fitness session in the morning(done outside on the field), combined with elements of Ballet and Jazz – so useful for all the dancers and finished with Latin-American workshop taught by Alex&Lisa who concentrated on perfomance values this time.
Despite the holiday season the studio was absolutely full of couples. Keep up the good work!!!

UK Closed Professional Latin Championships 2008

On Friday 11th July the UK Closed Championships started with the Juvenille and Junior and the Amateur 10 Dance Events where all the top couples from all over the UK came to take part. On the Saturday evening there was a dinner dance event where the entertainment for the evening was Ross Mitchell, his Band and Singers and of course the finals of the UK Closed Amateur Ballroom Championships and Professional Latin Championships. Alex and Lisa took part in this Championships and won for the 3rd consecutive year. A fantastic evening had by all. WEll done to the organisers. Full results can be seen on www.dancesportinfo.net

West End Carnival June 21st 2008

On Saturday 21st June 2008, Alex and Lisa and children of A&L Dance did a demonstration in the Arena at the West End Carnival. The Children presented a variety of dance styles that they have learnt in their dance classes and did their parents and Alex and Lisa very proud. The display started with the Uni-ted Club (3–7years) of West End Branch followed by the Netley Street Group, Then came the West End Ballroom and Latin Class and the show finished off with the Eastleigh Branch Advanced Street. A day of fun for both children and their parents. Well done everybody.

Summertime at Royal Albert Hall

Royal Albert Hall is a magnificent venue situated right in the heart of London. It is famous throughout the world for the exhibitions and shows that take place there. On Monday 16 of June an unusual perfomance took place in this theatre. Summertime- is a Showcase organised by English National Ballet , Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and Royal Albert Hall itself, it includes 10 schools from London area presenting different dance routines in different dance styles. Every school had a Professional Dance Artist allocated to it, to choreograph a dance in their particular style alongside choreographers from English National Ballet to work on the Finale which was danced by all 200 children to famous Gershwin’s piece of music- Rapsody in Blue.

Line up of Dance Artists included the best professionals in their field in our country, Richard Marcel-Salsa, Famous Clara Bajado- World Hip-Hop Champion… Alex&Lisa were very priveliged to be asked by ISTD to choreograph Latin-American piece for this show. Children from Holland Park School had only had 20 hours of tuition and managed to learn very intricate routne featuring Rumba and Cha-Cha. Very big thank you goes to their dance teacher Mr. Simon Dobson for all the hard work he put in training kids alongside Alex&Lisa. Everything went fabuluous on the day, 200 children performed to the full house(5000 people) including their parents, teachers, and invited guests. This night will be night to remember for many of those youngsters, and who knows, we might see some of them performing on the same stage but in different role one day…

Stars of the Future Championships 2008

Brentwood Leisure Centre is a very popular venue used by many Dance Promoters to run their competitions. One of the most popular events of the year is Stars of the Future Competition run by Nigel Horrocks. This wonderful event enables couples of a different level to compete agains each other in front of their teachers and adjudicators. This Year first round of competition started at 9.15 and finished at midnight, which shows how popular Ballroom Dancing is in the UK now. Alex&Lisa were their too, watching and supporting all couples trained by them and Linda&Robert Bellinger. This year number of our couples entering Stars has grown and they all did really well! Well Done to everybody!!!

English Championships 2008

On Monday 5th of May 2008 Alex and Lisa took part in the English Open To The World championships, in Lakeside, Frimley Park, a well known resort(home to the world of darts!). Although it was not a huge turnout in entries, the standard of couples was very high. Alex and Lisa were very proud to win this title, beating some strong rivals in this final, especially the Russian National Champions and Chinese and Slovenian Champions. European Professional Latin Championships 2008

On Sunday 27 of April Alex and Lisa took part in the Official European Professional Latin Championships held in Moscow, Russia. This competition was held in the Prestigious World Trade Center right by the bank of river Moscow. 50 dance duets took part in this tournament (2 best couples from each country in Europe) and created spectacular showcase for Moscow’s audience. Alex and Lisa have reached the Semi-final round of this event(top 14) and finished the top rancked british couple. This fabuluos evening was televised by Eurosport TV chanel, and will be broadcasted worldwide in December. We will publish the date in the nearest future…

British Junior Open to the World Championships

On Tuesday 25th March, Alex and Lisa travelled to Blackpool from London Heathrow Airport where they had returned from Hong Kong. This year they were privelaged to be chosen to be Team Captains of Team Great Britain for junior dancers(12–15years). This competition has a long standing tradition in the history of dance and it was very emotional especially for Lisa to take part in this role as she was part of the British team when they won back in 1996.
The members of this years team were: George Bowyer and Charlotte Sweeney, Sydney Chong and Danielle representing the Ballroom section, John Gianninni and Stevie Jones and Lawrence James and Zoe Stacey representing Latin. They all danced extremely well and made Britain proud by finishing 5th. Well done to you all. Thw whole competition lasted s week, with some great dancing shown by youngsters from all over the World. Look forward to next years event.

Results from Asian Tour 2008

On Saturday 22 of February Alex and Lisa begun their trip to Japan to take part in 2008 Asian Tour. This year the tour consisted of 6 competitions and is spread all over the Asia. First 2 events are traditonally held in Japan: Asian Open Tournament in Tokyo*(part of *WDC world ranking events) and JDC International competition in Nagoya.
Over 110 couples danced in Fabulous Budokan Hall in Tokyo including all top 24 World ranked couples, Alex&Lisa finished in 15 place missing semifinal just by few marks!
In Nagoya Alex&Lisa reached Grand Final and finished in prestigious 2nd place!!!
Congratulations for Japan and Good Luck in your next event in Hong-Kong!!!

Victory at the Universal Championships 2008

On Sunday 20th of January 2008 Alex and Lisa took part in the Universal Championships. This annual competition was held at Frimley Park, Lakeside and organised by Former World Champions Michael Stylianos and Lorna Lee. Over 60 couples from all over the world took part in Professional Latin event and after 5 rounds of competition Alex and Lisa managed to win this prestigious title. Runners-up in this strong final were couple from Ukraine, third China, fourth Slovenia, fifth China and sixth couple from Hong-Kong…For full results go to www.thebestcomps.net

World South Americain Showdance Championships in Holland

On Saturday 1st of December Alex and Lisa have made their trip to Sheveningen in Holland to represent England in World South American Showdance Championships 2007. This event was taking place in Fabulous Kurhaus (5-star hotel near Hague). 28 couples from all over the world entered this competition. Alex and Lisa finished in prestigious 8th place just outside 7 couple Final! (missing final just by 2 marks) .They performed their Gladiator routine. This competition was televised and it will be shown on Dutch RTL 4 chanell on December th 30th 2007…

Worlds Opening Ceremony 2007

On Sunday 18th of November BDF organised 2007 Professional Ballroom Championships which took place in Famous Wintergardens in Blackpool. This year Alex and Lisa were priveliged to choreograph The Opening Ceremony for this prestigious event in the world of dance. The rehearsals started summer time 2007 and 30 minutes Show routine included UK’s top Amateur, Youth, Junior and Juvenile couples… This show is a complete mixture of styles: Jazz, Flamenco number, Juvenile Jive, Argentine Tango, Cha-Cha are some of the styles included in this showcase. The Opening ceremony was very well received by audience( 5000 people)!!! Well Done to all the dancers, You did England proud!!!

British National Championships 2007, Blackpool

On Wednesday 14th of November Alex and Lisa were travelling to Blackpool to take part in the most important competition of the Year. British National Championships. This year it was a very long weekend for Alex and Lisa as they were dancing three days!

On Thursday they took part in British South American Showdance Championships and finished in 1st Place, which gives them right to represent England at the World Championships next year. On Friday Alex and Lisa danced in Professional Latin event, and finished in prestigious 3rd place! There were a lot of surprises on the night as Former World Champion Paul Kilick returned to the floor with his new partner and finished 2nd!!! At the same time The winner of this event Paul Richardson and Olga Rodionova retired from competetive career, which moves Alex and Lisa into the 2nd spot in the country!!!

On Wednesday 24th October 2007 20 couples of our top UK Competitors participated in the Squad Training organised by Alex and Lisa. This time it was a record amount of couples entering the day! All the partipants worked very hard throughout the day, they were given lectures by Alex and Lisa on Jazz in the morning and latin Americain Advanced Choreography with elements of presentation skills in the early afternoon. After lunch they were treated to a Ballroom lecture by Mr Robert Bellinger.

And to finish off the day all the couples were given a Master Class Lecture by our Special Guest Former World Professional Latin Finalist Miss Carol Macraild. A&L Team wishes all the couples success in the forthcoming events especially the British National Championships in November at Blackpool!!!

55TH INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Thursday 11th October 2007 Alex and Lisa took part in one of the most prestigious competitions of the year ‘INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONAL LATIN CHAMPIONSHIPS’ that took place at the Royal Albert Hall in the heart of London. 146 Couples from all over the World took part in this event, Alex and Lisa made the quarter final round (top 24) of this competition being ranked 2nd British Couple in this event. The exact placings of this event will be released in the nearest future. Well Done!

A Weekend of Cabaret

After a week of training in Holland prior to International Championships Alex and Lisa returned to Folkstone to perform their cabaret to Joyce Welfords School of Dance. The show was well appreciated by the audience both children in the afternoon and adults in the evening.

From there Alex and Lisa flew to Newcastle where they spent the whole day on Sunday 7th October 2007 first lecturing for local professionals and competitors and in the evening perfoming at the Gala Ball for the IDTAs Tyne Tees Area Annual Dance. It was great to see such enthusiasm amongst the young generation towards dance. How promising it looks for England in the future!

A day at Leatherhead

On Sunday 16th September 2007 a group of dancers trained by Alex and Lisa and Robert and Linda Bellinger went to take part in the competiton held at Leatherhead Leisure Centre. It was a very successful day for all the couples that particpated. They all showed competitive spirit with great team work and used this comp to prepare for the major events in the nearest future. Well done to Lewis Handley Greaves and Kirsty Sahota(their first competiton together! finishing 1st) Kai Widdrington and Zoe Handley Greaves(2nd), Jordan Sahota and Deanna Cox (1st), Michael and Kerry Hildyard (2nd), Anthony and Becky Dibble (2nd), Alan and Treza (6th), Well done to you all, good luck in the future events… A fabulous day had by all.

On Wednesday 8th August Alex and Lisa demonstrated at the Piccadilly Hotel in sunny Bournemouth. This fabulous evening was organised by former Latin Champions John Byrnes and Jane Littleton and was part of a 5 day dancing holiday with workshops taught by John and Jayne during the day. A lovely evening enjoyed by all….

European Professional Latin Americain Championships, Kiev, Ukraine

After a long tedious journey and a 10 hour delay Alex and Lisa arrived in Kiev ready for the European Professional Latin Championships that was held on Sunday July 22nd. They finished in a fantastic 8th place!!!

Rehearsals for the World Championships Showcase.

On Saturday 4th of August a group of Young dancers gathered at Leigh Ballroom in Eastleigh to take part in Rehearsals for a very special Showcase. This Dance will be part of the Opening Ceremony for the 2007 World Professional Ballroom Championships being held in the Famous Wintergardens ,Blackpool which is traditionally organised by Ballroom Dancers Federation every second year and this year Alex and Lisa have taken the responsibility of choreographing the Opening Ceremony. It will be a 25 minute Performance including a variety of Styles(from Jazz to Flamenco) danced by some of the top British competitors(from Juveniles to Amateurs)...

UK Closed Championships 2007

On Friday 13th July 2007, Alex and Lisa defended their title of the United Kingdom Closed Professional Latin Championship and became the winners of this event for the second time. It was good timing for Alex and Lisa as this competition was a week before the European Championships in Kiev, Ukraine where Alex and Lisa will be going and representing England. IDTA Congress 2007 in Southport

On Monday 2nd of July Alex and Lisa were very proud to take part in the 2007 IDTA Annual Congress held in the Floral Hall, Southport. In the daytime there were numerous lectures on all types of dance, Alex and Lisa presented a lecture on Jive, showing an advanced variation. In the evening a Dinner Dance was hosted where all the Professionals enjoyed a cabaret starring Alex and Lisa, Domenico Soale and Gioia Cerasoli*(World PRofessional Standard Finalists), *Students from Phil Winstons Theatre Works and Ballet choreographed by Neil Westmoreland.
To top up this wonderful line up was the live music of Todd Miller and the Jo Loss Orchestra.

Demonstration held at Surrey Downs Golf Club, Saturday 23rd June

On Saturday 23rd June Alex and Lisa demonstrated a 5 Dance Latin Americain Show for Oakhurst School at their Annual Fund Raising Dinner Dance which took place at Surrey Downs Golf Club in Kingswood. It was a very well organised and supported event of which all the profits will be donated to the Marie Curies Cancer Charity. A Big Thank you goes to Marion Welsh*(a fabulous and former champion of Ballroom Dancing)for organising the entertainment for the night. The Latin Show was followed by a live band *‘The Reservoir Dogs’. A great night enjoyed by all.

Recording of ISTD Jive Technique DVD

On Tuesday and Wednesday 5th and 6th of June Alex and Lisa took part in a recording for The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing of a DVD that shows all the Jive syllabus steps that are written in the technique book. This DVD will be available to buy alongside the book and will show to audiences all the dance figures to a slow count with an explaination by one of the leading technicians in Dance Business – Mrs Lorna Lee. Alex and Lisa were very proud to be part of this production as they were the only British Couple to be involved alongside some of the Worlds Best Competitors: Peter Stokebroe and Kristina Stokebroe, Sergey Surkov and Melia, Maurizio Veskovo and Melinda Tokovygory, Andrius Kandelis and Egle Kandelis performing one of the other 4 Latin Americain dances.

The Imperial Championships

On Saturday 19th May Alex and Lisa competed in The Imperial Professional Latin Championship held at Lakeside in Frimley. They successfully made the Grande Final of this Competition and finished in 7th Place being the highest ranked British couple of this event. Over 70 couples took part in this prestigious competition.

IDTA Southern Area Congress and Dinner Dance

On Sunday 13th May Alex and Lisa lectured for the Southern Area IDTA Congress that took place in the Lyndhurst Park Hotel in the beautiful area of the New Forest. They taught participants two routines in Rumba and Jive that teachers could take away with them to their own studios. The whole day was completed with a Dinner Dance in the evening where Alex and Lisa starred in the cabaret performance showing 5 Latin Americain Dances to an audience of around 130 guests. The evening was enjoyed by all. Well done IDTA!

60th Anniversary of The Northern Dance Club in Aberdeen

On the 28th of April Alex and Lisa were delighted to attend Annual Dinner&Gala Evening organised by Northern Dance Club in Aberdeen, Scotland. This year was a very special year to the Club as they celebrate their 60th Anniversary. This fabuluous event was held in the historical Beach Ballroom with live music of Ross Mitchell Band and double Cabaret by Alex and Lisa in Latin, Chris Short and Dominika Choroszko in Ballroom audience was dancing their way till early hours of the morning. As always this evening was very well supported, with a regular members of the club and special guests invited (The Lord & Lady Provost of Aberdeen) there was a total sellout of the tickets! Once again Well Done to the Organisers, Aberdeen should be proud of You!!!

Demonstration in Llanharan, Wales

On the very hot Saturday afternoon of 14th April, Alex and Lisa started their trip to the village of Llanharan,Wales. They perfomed a 4 dance latin show and Argentine Tango routine to the audience of First Class Dance Studio. This fabulous event was organised by Duncan Smart (an IDTA member)and he must be congratulated for doing a marvellous job as the party was a total sellout. We hope the tradition of this event will continue and wish all the success to Duncan and his studio!

Show in Bangkok for Mr Shomchai

On Friday 6th of April Alex and Lisa attended Opening of Summer Mansion Grand Hall Celebrations in Bangkok(Thailand). The whole event was organised by Mr. Shomchai and he trully did an amazing job firstly by meeting all invited guests at the airport himself, then organising a wonderful tour by boat of Bangkok and three evenings of celebrations. The main evening of celebrations included a cabaret by Alex and Lisa doing a Latin Show and Christian and Barbara from Italy doing a Ballroom one. Both were enjoyed by all the special guests from all over the World including Hong Kong, Canada, USA and Honolulu to name a few. On the final day Alex and Lisa assisted Mr Paul Beeton in a 2 hour lecture on Cha Cha, Samba and Pasodoble choreography for the audience which ended with a presentation of a basic rumba by Alex and Lisa which brought the house down. A wonderful organised event enjoyed by everybody! A big Thank you goes to Mr Shomchai for all his effort in making such a successful celebration. A corporate event in Sardinia, Italy

After a long day of 18 hours travelling due to strikes in Italy Alex and Lisa eventually arrived in Sardinia via Rome on Tuesday 13th March alongside Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova, Gino from Ready Steady Cook, Jilly Goolden -famous wine expert, and Dj Treveor Nelson to name a few names. The wonderful few days was enjoyed by 1200 employees of a well knownn high street bank. During the day Alex and Lisa had two 2 hour sessions assisting teaching the employees how to dance the Salsa and the Jive. In the evening,they enjoyed a reception drink with the employees, then dinner topped with a fantastic show by the the Sugababes. All the entertainment for this event was booked by Jillie Bushell Associates www.jilliebushell.com .Absolutely brilliant time had by all. EADA Junior and Juvenile Day at Egham

On Saturday 3rd of March Alex and Lisa were invited to take part in Training Day organised by EADA for Junior and Juvenile couples. Invited couples from all over the country took part in lectures on Latin-American dancing and they also enjoed morning session of Aerobics.
It was a great pleasure and joy to watch young competitors listening to valuable tips given by Alex and Lisa and trying to improve their dancing. We hope this succesful event will continue and all the couples will do better!!! Big THANK YOU goes to Manuel Silva for helping to organise this Day on behalf of EADA…

I.D.T.A Congress in London

On Sunday 4th February 2007 Alex and Lisa have participated in the Annual I.D.T.A Congress. This congress was held right in the heart of London in the Royal Lancaster hotel. It was a long day that started with a variety of lectures in all forms of dance and finished with a luxurious Dinner Dance with the presentation of Carl Alan Awards (Oscars of the Dancing World!).
This year Alex and Lisa had taken an active part in the lecture day. Firstly, they were presenting the Jive Choreography in the lecture given by Linda Bellinger, and in the afternoon Alex partnered the former World Champion Miss Denise Weavers in her lecture on Paso Doble and Rumba. These lectures were videoed and the dvd will be available to buy at a future date.

Universal Dinner and Dance 2007

On Friday 19th January Alex and Lisa demonstrated at the Universal Dinner and Dance evening at the luxurious Copthorne Park Hotel near Gatwick. This evening was hosted by Michael Stylianos and Lorna Lee – Former World Professional Latin Champions whom have invited 20 top couples from all over the world to demonstrate for their audience. The venue was absolutely packed second year in a row with many of the top professionals, celebrities and dance fans and enthusiasts in the audience. They all enjoyed a four course meal followed by live music from the Jo Loss Orchestra and the finale being a two hour show by the invited couples. Champions of Tomorrow Competition at Blackpool

On Saturday 6th January, couples from the Leigh Ballroom trained by Robert/Linda Bellinger and Alex/Lisa Ivanets took part in Champions of Tomorrow held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. IT was very successful day all round. Here are the following results of our couples:

Squad Training in Estonia and Estonian Latin Championships

On the first day of a new year- 2007, Alex and Lisa made their way to the Capital of Estonia – Tallinn. This was a very important week for the members of one of the biggest dance clubs in the Country – Team Leevi, as on Sunday 7th January, all couples were taking part in the National Latin Americain championships. All the couples worked and trained very hard over those couple f days preparing for this very important competiton. Here are some of the results:

New Qualifications

Alex and Lisa are delighted to announce that they have become members of the United Kingdom Alliance. They have passed their Associate exam in the Ballroom field on Thursday the 16th of November in Blackpool. Also back in June this year Alex and Lisa had joined the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) and had passed their Associate exam in the Latin field. They are now fully qualified in both styles to be able to adjudicate in competitions.
